How do I know if I need a bookkeeper or an accountant?

How much does bookkeeping cost?

Bookkeeping fees vary based on the services needed. I typically begin working at an hourly rate (with a cap) and then settle on an average monthly rate. Beyond basic bookkeeping, I support payroll processing, tax payments, accounts payable, accounts receivable, asset tracking, special reporting, grant monitoring, budgeting, bill pay, and other activities. Hiring an independent bookkeeper can be more cost-effective than hiring staff and provides greater organizational flexibility. Also, most bookkeeping costs are considered business expenses and may be tax-deductible.
